(Singapore, 11 June 2024) As part of Amara Hotels and Resorts' ambitious transformation of its two Singapore properties, Amara Sanctuary Sentosa introduces a new era of serenity on Sentosa Island with refreshed interiors. Drawing on the creative expertise of cross-disciplinary design studio FARM, which is renowned for its holistic spatial approach, the updated spaces elegantly interweave contemporary aesthetics with biophilic elements.

Paying homage to the island's maritime heritage as a former military fortress and the estate’s 100-year legacy, the redesign showcases a meticulous selection of natural materials, including indigenous stone, venerable timber and reclaimed wood upcycled from traditional fishing vessels. The island’s verdant environs are also mirrored through lush plants, which invigorate previously underutilised spaces into tranquil oases for mindful contemplation.

“As we embark on our latest redesign, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving the legacy that has defined us since our inception. By seamlessly integrating contemporary design elements, we revitalise our cherished heritage, ensuring its relevance for future generations,” shares Dawn Teo, Chief Operating Officer of Amara Holdings Limited. “In today's fast-paced world, where many seek tranquillity and rejuvenation, our refreshed design approach resonates with travellers seeking solace in nature. We aim to offer more than just accommodation; we provide an immersive experience that nourishes the soul and renews the spirit, setting a new standard for hospitality in an ever-changing landscape.”

At the heart of the estate’s transformation lies the resplendent lobby, where an ethereal skylight casts a mesmerising play of light and shadow. Guiding the focus to the centre of the space is a majestic four-metre Pithecellobium Confertum ‘Everfresh Tree’ with Davallia Fejeensis shrub, emphasising to guests the quiet splendour of nature as they first interact with the hotel. At night, guests can observe the tree closing its leaves as it conserves water. While the lobby is configured to entice travellers to engage with each other, it also boasts cosy corners for guests to savour moments of repose. Plans for retail opportunities within the lobby space are also underway and will offer unique takeaway products that reflect the essence of the Amara brand around its respective locations.

The biophilic design ethos extends to the updated Villas and Suites, which foster a fluid ambience of nature-inspired refinement throughout the resort. To ensure a graceful transition between outdoor and indoor spaces, the new design harnesses the potential of flora and greenery to evoke calmness and respite among guests. Abundant planters are positioned to enhance the surroundings, as the outdoor courtyards and foyers provide nooks with daybeds, new settees, hammocks, or bar tables inviting guests to bask in the sun's warmth and the colonial façade.

The rooms embrace sand-inspired hues, permeating the space with a sense of coastal serenity in tandem with the nearby Palawan Beach right in the resort’s backyard. Nature’s colours are also weaved in, from verdant greens to warm tans, paired with organic materials such as rattan, timber, and sisal. Additionally, Verandah Studios and Suites rooms have been transformed into dual-key apartments with kitchenettes to accommodate the rise in multi-generational family travellers.

The all-new Sanctuary Tearoom sits at the heart of the resort as its main dining space. The 146-seater minimalist restaurant — of which 88 are located indoors while 58 are alfresco — transforms between meals to suit the occasion, whether it be the daily breakfast buffet featuring a wide spread of hearty local dishes or private functions tailored to celebrate life’s most cherished moments.

Earth-toned furnishings are juxtaposed with handwoven rattan lanterns and towering greens, in keeping with the resort’s lush, naturalistic design ethos. A patio area, fitted with plush settees, overlooks the lobby’s stunning water feature, while, floor-to-ceiling windows offer glimpses of the picturesque lawn outside, making Sanctuary Tearoom the perfect backdrop for weddings that deserve to be etched in time.

“We were thrilled to be appointed to reimagine the new Amara Sanctuary,” said Selwyn Low, Director of FARM. “The estate, with its sprawling landscape and colonial architecture, presented endless possibilities and was already a masterpiece to work with. There were numerous captivating features we wished to celebrate while creating fresh opportunities for guests to rediscover the heritage building and its surroundings. Consequently, we opted to activate various pockets of space for guests to enjoy, highlighting the lush greenery and architectural charm.”

Amara Sanctuary Sentosa's redesign was completed after five months, marking its official launch on 24 May 2024. To mark its rejuvenated suites and villas, Amara Sanctuary Sentosa has launched an exclusive offer ‘ Sanctuary Escapade,’ which includes 20% off best available rates on suites and villas, daily breakfast for two, afternoon tea set for two, and S$100 dining credit per stay at Sanctuary Tearoom.
