Orh Gao Peh Gao Raises the Bar for ‘Food Court’ Outlets

Evolving from its Serene Centre day-to-night format, the cult-favourite taproom introduces a unified all-day concept at New Bahru’s Factory Block Food Hall, with breakfast from 9:00am, new Asian-inspired dishes, and 14 taps dedicated to Singapore craft breweries.

(Singapore, June 7 2026) We were stunned. We’ve eaten in many food courts in Singapore and have never enjoyed the quality of food that Orh Gao Peh Gao serves at New Bahru’s Factory Block Food Hall. Understanding that its mother ship is Serene Centre that has long been popular in Botanic Garden, clarified why this new outlet is delivering the goods.

New Bahru opened in 2024 on the site of Nan Chiau High School campus and the adjacent Tai Wah Garments & Knitting Factory on Kim Yam Road in the River Valley area. The Factory Block, the final phase of the project, opened in May 2026 with 62 brands spanning food and drink, retail, wellness, enrichment, hospitality, and arts and culture. This is when Orh Gao Peh Gao opened with Ryan managing the outlet. Learn more about New Bahru here

On a Sunday afternoon the place was swarming with young couples and young families from the ground floor where Parlour serves gelato and Beyond The Vines Design House offers bold yet simple designs to the 4th floor and even outside. On the second floor Orh Gao Peh Gao shares the space with a variety of food outlets. In this Food Court setting we were not expecting gourmet level food.

Located a block off Mohamed Sultan Road, this neighbourhood brand, known for bringing together local coffeeshop culture, Asian comfort food and craft beer has evolved from the Botanic Garden approach where Peh Gao Coffeeshop operates by day and Orh Gao Taproom takes over in the evening. Orh Gao, Hokkien for stout beer, signals that they are presenting craft beer that originate in Singapore.

The New Bahru location brings both identities together under one all-day concept. As the only kiosk in New Bahru’s Factory Block Food Hall to serve breakfast, it opens from 9:00am with a dedicated morning menu before moving into its full offering from 11:00am, spanning rice and noodle dishes, shareable plates and the tap program dedicated entirely to Singapore craft breweries. Food is available until 9:00pm, while craft beers pour until 11:00pm.

“We have 14 craft beer on tap,” Ryan informed us. “Plus two sakes, cocktails and wine.” It might not be what you have with your Kaya Toast at 9:00am, but rest assured there are many non-alcoholic drinks available.

The New Bahru menu expands the brand’s familiar Asian comfort food approach with new dishes created for the all-day format, alongside a selection of signatures that regulars will recognise from Serene Centre.

Our menu had been predetermined:

Kaya Toast with eggs;

Hokkien Mee Tai Mak;

Tobiko Prawn Fried Rice;

Chicken Skewer Salad;

Chimichurri Pork Chop

The Kaya Toast arrived first. No need to tell Singaporeans about Kaya Toast with eggs, but as the only outlet to serve breakfast in New Bahru it is important for their offering and is worth getting up early to have a bite on your way to work.

The other dishes all arrived at once. The first delight was Chicken Skewer Salad. Having had too many skewers, chicken, beef and pork, that were a dense rubbbery consistency, I wondered if Singaporeans could make a proper kabab. Orh Gao Peh Gao proves they can. It was succulent.

Another highlight is Tobiko Prawn Fried Rice with the plump prawns generously populating the dish. Spring onion and calamansi add depth of flavour. “Someone knows how to cook a prawn,” Farah commented.

Chimichurri Pork Chop is new to the menu.  This five-spice pork chop is finished with Asian chimichurri and calamansi. The herbaceous dressing and citrus cut through the richness of the meat, making it perfect for sharing over drinks. If you want a very filling afternoon fare, order what we had. Farah and I couldn’t make it through all.

Hokkien Mee Tai Mak combines the savoury depth of housemade stock with the quintessential combination of tiger prawns, fish cake, pork lard and sambal belachan, topped with spring onion and calamansi, offering the richness of Hokkien mee. While not following exactly the traditional dish this will delight those looking for a new twist on it.

The All-Local Craft Beer Programme at Orh Gao Peh Gao’s New Bahru bar pours from 14 rotating taps dedicated entirely to Singapore craft breweries. Farah went for Brewlander’s XPA as it is smooth, light and crisp, which accurately describes it. My heart, not broken, was improved by a hazy pale ale, Unbreak my Heart by Outtamost Brewery. I love various craft beer, and this met expectations.

Orh Gao Peh Gao’s line-up includes crisp lagers, IPAs, sours, stouts and seasonal releases, with weekly rotations that move between easy-drinking favourites and more exploratory styles. Local breweries on regular rotation include Brewlander, Alive Brewing, Ren Min and Sunbird Brewery, with the selection refreshed regularly and with occasional exclusive drops

Cold-Pressed Juices, Organic Sugar-Free Flavoured Sodas and Coconut Water are available along with the expected kopi and teh.

To celebrate Orh Gao Peh Gao’s official opening at New Bahru an event is planned for early July and  monthly events are in the works. Details will be announced across Orh Gao's channels.
