(September 7, 2021) The Tourism Council of Chiang Mai has announced the reopening of Chiang Mai Province, commencing October 1, 2021. Tourism Council of Chiang Mai Chairman Mr Punlup Saejew stated: “The campaign will be called  ‘Charming Chiang Mai (CMCM). The entire province will excitedly provide the warmest welcome to all international tourists from countries with low COVID-19 risk according to the updated terms and conditions by the Thailand COVID-19 Management Centre.”

Chiang Mai will begin a partial reopening of four districts; Amphur Muang/Chiang Mai City, Maerim, Maetaeng and Doi Tao. These are ‘Bubble Sealed Route’ areas under compulsory ground handling of Local Certified Destination Management Companies (DMC) or certified travel agencies who are well-trained on the strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Similar to the successful Phuket Sandbox, which launched on July 1, 2021, all tourists must be vaccinated prior to arrival. The ground services will provide 100 percent safety as they travel within Thailand.

Currently there are direct flights between Phuket & Chiang Mai and The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is working on a plan for a 7-day stay in Phuket and a 7-day stay in Chiang Mai. It will issue an announcement as soon as plans are confirmed.

Chiang Mai is moving to a new normal of tourism products and services by enhancing Agro Gastronomy Tourism (the Journey of Rice, Forest Food Fellowship, Farm Stay, Herb & Turf, etc.), Sports Tourism, Wellness Tourism, Art & Culture Tourism (including the city of festivals) and MICE. As all will be lifted up to new product champions which will come along by certified DMC.

“Last but not least,” Mr Saejew (pictured right) added, “we have released some B2B information to support travel agents. For more information or enquiry please do not hesitate to contact the representatives of TAT or a TAT branch in your area.”
