Discover the legacy of trailblazing female Nanyang Artist Lai Foong Moi at National Gallery Singapore

(Singapore July 28, 2026) Opening on 14 August 2026, National Gallery Singapore presents Lai Foong Moi: Crossings, spotlighting underexplored Nanyang artist Lai Foong Moi with exclusive, rarely seen works. Discover her artistic life journey through her impressive achievements as a trailblazing female artist and her enduring impact as an arts educator at her alma mater, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.

Through portraiture, still life, and landscape paintings, the exhibition presents Lai’s unique, contemplative portrayals of familiar nostalgic scenes and experiences in Singapore during its transitional years as a new nation in the 1960s and 1970s.

This is the first solo presentation of Lai Foong Moi since the 1960s and is presented as part the Gallery’s Dalam Singapore exhibition series which offers deeper insights into lesser-known figures and stories from Singapore’s art history.
