I just walked in, to see what condition Edition was in. The newly launched The Roof was the scene for Sundown drinks hosted by Rémy Cointreau, at where else but the rooftop of Singapore EDITION.  One of Singapore’s newest hotels, tucked into the Orchard Road area adjacent to the Hard Rock Café, it is lusciously designed and, despite the  urban views, has the ambience of a Beach Club. Chilled, laid back, with a touch of decadence of drinking at an hour when you should be working. The pool is now open to hotel guests and The Roof begins its career welcoming guests and hosting special events.

The launch of what is set to be Orchard Road’s happiest hour and the go-to spot for an evening tipple welcomed well-dressed media and influencers. We raised a glass or three of drinks such as the Port Sangria featuring Rémy Martin 1738, or the Georgia Mint Julep crafted with Bruichladdich Classic Laddie, peach, and mint. The refreshing Guava Cooler made with Botanist Gin, guava and ginger is perfect for the summer weather. I found the Old Cuban, made with Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, mint lime and Prosecco, an enticing anesthetic. On a hot afternoon, it was refreshing and seductive and took the edge off the day now ending.

There were six drinks being shaken, mixed and chilled behind the bar and it was my duty to sample as many as possible.  Despite not liking mango I enjoyed the Mango Spritz that had mango infused aperol, Prosecco and soda. Next, I landed at Port Sangria. The drink the straw was stirring included Ruby Port, Remy Martin 1738, lime and lemon. While sipping the cocktails the waitstaff presented a delectable selection of canapes.

The Montelobos Mezcal gave a smoky flavour to the Spicy Margarita with lime and chili giving it the rat-a-tat-tat. And there my afternoon indulgence came to a halt as I knew if I kept this up, my head would soon be going rat-a-tat-tat, or ding-a-ding-a-ding-dong.

While the spiffily dressed crowd continued to arrive I thanked my hosts for a lovely time and descended via elevator to make my way back to reality through the lobby that might have been concocted in Wonderland.

The Singapore EDITION features 204 guestrooms and suites in addition to sophisticated public spaces that include several innovative restaurant and bar concepts. In addition to the rooftop pool, there is a spa and gym. There are versatile meeting spaces all of which you reach through the intricately designed lobby.
