Theatre-Let Project Launches Board Game Centre Edition to Boost Creative Learning and Community Play

(Singapore October 17, 2025) Step into a theatre experience like no other, where 11 board games transform into portals to Singapore’s neighbourhoods. Created by acclaimed Japanese director Akira Takayama and his theatre unit Port B, Theatre-Let Project: Board Game Centre Edition reimagines performance as a playful encounter.
Commissioned for Singapore Biennale 2025: pure intention, this series of board games reimagines unique sites in Singapore to reconnect with nature, cityscapes, and the people whose stories shape them. Forming a psychogeographical map of Singapore, the games explore haunted lands in Bukit Brown, question myths of Kusu Island, listen in on stories hidden within rental flats, and even uncover sanctuaries where tigers prowl.

Featuring evocative titles such as “Ah Ubin!”, “Tiger Run!”, “Searching for Serai” and “(Re)Scripting Tiong Bahru”, each game transforms the stories and issues of its place into a tabletop adventure.
Developed through workshops with students from the National University of Singapore’s Department of Architecture, the project draws inspiration from Takayama’s reading of Bertolt Brecht’s final statement: “What will be needed from now on are various small and mobile forms—Theatre-let.” This work reflects Takayama’s pursuit of a more intimate and experimental form of theatre.

Jurong Regional Library: 8 October 2025 – 23 November 2025
Tampines Regional Library: 26 November 2025 – 11 January 2026
20 Anderson Road (a Singapore Biennale venue): 14 January 2026 – 29 March 2026
