NLB brings reading to more everyday spaces across Singapore with new Sci-Fi Pop-up Library and Sit-n-Read Nodes

(Singapore, 14 May 2026) Reading adventures are now closer than ever with the launch of National Library Board’s new Sci-Fi Pop-up Library at Parkway Parade, alongside three new Sit-n-Read Nodes at Century Square, City Sprouts Bedok, and The Cove at Waterway Point. This is part of NLB’s ongoing efforts to champion reading in Singapore by making reading more exciting, accessible, and integrated into everyday spaces.

Discover epic sci-fi reads and more at the Sci-Fi Pop-up Library Located on Level 4 of Parkway Parade, the Sci-Fi Pop-up Library is a fully self-service library featuring close to 4,000 sci-fi books, graphic novels, and comics for readers of all ages, in collaboration with Parkway Parade and supported by The Imaginariad, an organisation dedicated to celebrating and preserving the legacy of science fiction and fantasy.

Designed with futuristic chrome walls and green-neon ambient lights, the pop-up library is a sleek portal that will transport readers right into their favourite sci-fi adventure. An interactive eReads screen also allows patrons to easily borrow and read sci-fi eBooks on the go. Journey deeper into the sci-fi universe with a sci-fi themed exhibition curated with support from The Imaginariad.

The first exhibition housed within an NLB pop-up library, discover original paintings used on sci-fi book covers, such as The Icarus Twin by Timothy Zahn and The Drowned World by J.G. Ballard, alongside thematic artworks and figures inspired by books from the pop-up library’s collection.

Explore a range of sci-fi sub genres at the exhibition, such as space opera, dystopian worlds, and cyberpunk, while deepening an appreciation of the stories that inspired these works. Patrons will also have the chance to discover how the sci-fi genre took off in Singapore and explore books by Singapore sci-fi authors, such as Judith Huang and Vivian Teo.

The pop-up will run from 14 May 2026 to 11 April 2027, 10am to 10pm daily. The collection will progressively be expanded over time.

Sit-n-Read Nodes return with more pre-loved books NLB is opening new Sit-n-Read Nodes at Century Square, City Sprouts Bedok, and The Cove at Waterway Point. These join the existing network of Sit-n-Read Nodes at AMK Hub, Margaret Market, SAFRA Punggol, SAFRA Yishun, The Caffeine Experience at The URA Centre, The Centrepoint, and The Star Vista.

With the launch of the new Sit-n-Read Nodes, patrons can now look forward to more than 6,000 pre-loved books across ten Sit-n-Read Nodes around Singapore. They similarly offer pre-loved books with a regularly updated pre-loved collection for all ages. The pre loved books can be taken home without borrowing, but everyone is encouraged to bring the books back too, so others can have a chance to read them as well.
