Spain Tourism Board Appoints Marta Fernandez Martin as Tourism Counsellor

(February 14, 2024) Spain Tourism Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Marta Fernandez Martin as Tourism Counsellor for South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The new appointment will see Marta focus on the importance of Spain's economic, social and environmental sustainability within the tourism sector.

Having graduated from the University of Zaragoza with a Degree in Legal Studies, Marta went on to complete her international training in Brussels, where she worked for an NGO dedicated to the protection of human rights. In 2008, Marta joined the Spanish Administration as a career civil servant, where she has held various positions in the Ministries of Economy, Finance and Tourism. Most notably, Marta was the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Public Administration and for the Undersecretary of Economy, as well as Head of Cabinet of the Undersecretary of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and Director of Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Tourism.

"I am delighted to join the Spain Tourism Board as their Tourism Counsellor in the South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand markets. These markets are hugely important for Spain, and I look forward to further promoting our country's reputation both within these regions and globally and continuing to drive awareness around the importance of sustainable tourism, and demonstrating how Spain continues to be a leader in this field”, said Marta.

In her newly appointed role, Marta will focus on promoting responsible tourism that guarantees the sustainability of Spanish destinations and the wellbeing of local communities. Marta particularly hopes to strengthen Spain's global reputation for its rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural landscapes, as well as showcase the country's dedication toward sustainable practices.

Marta replaces outgoing Tourism Counsellor for South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Monica Gonzalez Sanchez. While based in Singapore, Marta and her team continue to be supported locally in the Australia and New Zealand market by travel-specialist agency Helm.
