The tourist town of Siem Reap is best known as a temple town due to its proximity to the famous Angkor ruins and the world’s largest religious site. While the ancient Khmer temples are a magnet for tourism, there’s a real party atmosphere in Siem Reap.
Tourists congregate at bars, restaurants, and cafés centred on Pub Street as the sun sets. However, many visitors choose to enjoy happy-hour drinks in their hotel of choice before heading out for a night on the town.
Centrally Located
The Aviary Hotel is where guests gather to take in the open-air setting, and value-for-money beverages and bar snacks served by enthusiastic staff. The cozy bar has comfortable lounges and tables and chairs in its interior and benchtop tables on the exterior overlooking the hotel pool.
Glide Bar specializes in classic cocktails (US$5.50), signature cocktails (US$6), and mocktails (US$5.50), as well as spirits, beers, a few wines by the glass or bottle, sodas and juices. When recently there, we sampled a few cocktails, including the Singapore Sling, Whiskey Sour, The Aviary, Cuckoo’s Nest and Pink Flamingo.
Gin Gin Gin
While sipping the ornately decorated Singapore Sling comprising Harpoon Gin, Cherry Liqueur, Bols Triple Sec, Dom Benedictine, Grenadine, lime juice, pineapple juice, Angostura Bitters and an avalanche of ice cubes, we contemplated renaming it the Siem Reap Sling.
Patrons can also choose snacks and more substantive meals from a selection of Japanese, Western, local and Asian favourites. Feeling thirstier than hungry, we chose French fries accompanied by tomato sauce and mayonnaise and were most satisfied.
Glide Bar provides a relaxed venue for a pre-dinner beverage, as well as a quiet place to gather and chat with friends. The happy hour, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, especially appeals with 50% discounts on beers and cocktails.
