Pullman Saigon Centre Hotel
a perfect room with a view
Stayed just a couple of days at this hotel. Everything was wonderful. The staff is very kind and efficient. Our executive suite has a fab view of the whole city. It is also called a honeymoon suite because of a huge bathtub, a spa bathroom with a TV, a lounge chair to relax after the bath, and a separate spacious modern shower. Lovely space to relax and call home for a short time.We particularly enjoyed the Executive Lounge with its selection of fresh canapés inspired by Vietnamese and Western cuisines. We lounged there in the late afternoon before going for dinner. Sipping drinks and enjoying the delicious snacks we watched the sunset over the city. The restaurants in the hotel are of the quality that you would expect from a 5-star hotel but General Manager Tony Chisholm likes to keep the leading edge at his hotel. Food Connection, which serves an international buffet with a live cooking area for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and an a la carte menu does ‘Pop Up’ themes that change throughout the year. While we were there a Pop Up Burger Bar was creating, not only great burgers, but creating waves for other F&B outlets. “When we introduced the Black Burger,” Tony stated. “We sold 600 burgers in the first month. Others copied us.”Now be careful when you step out of the hotel and venture into this intriguing city. Friend David Bowden had his camera snatched off his shoulder by youths on a motorcycle. Although I have been to this country numerous times I get ripped off all the time. Last night I did not read the numbers properly and had to pay S$50 for a kilo of Vietnamese coffee at the Night Market in District1!! I asked the girl to grind the beans and when she asked for 800,000 and not 80,000 I had no choice but cough up the cash. Read the prices carefully.
You will find some of the best street food in SE Asia in the warren of alleys in the district around the Pullman. You only need to be a little adventurous to try some surprisingly excellent dishes at very reasonable prices.
