Robert Natkin’s ‘A Better Place’ Exhibition Opens at Sundaram Tagore Gallery Singapore
October 25 – December 20, 2025
(October 8, 2025 Singapore) Sundaram Tagore Singapore is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by renowned American artist Robert Natkin (1930–2010), one of the foremost abstract colorist painters of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The exhibition, which brings together paintings spanning five decades, is a rare opportunity to explore the range and depth of this prolific artist’s creative output.
Robert Natkin is internationally recognized for the beauty of his large-scale abstract canvases. His work is in the collections of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum and Whitney Museum of American Art, among many other notable institutions.
Art historian Marius Kwint describes Natkin’s paintings as life-affirming sensual celebrations of visual delight, of glorious Hollywood Technicolor, and sunny outlooks. The noted American art critic Carter Ratcliff has aptly described Natkin’s oeuvre as gorgeously complex and serenely at odds with prevailing trends.

Natkin’s hues are shamelessly seductive, whether deployed in vertical columns, spread in gauzy veils, or strikingly textured. On his canvases, paint creates a seemingly infinite space in which iconographic details appear to hover or float through illusory depths.
This is the first time a solo exhibition of Robert Natkin’s work has been mounted in Singapore. The exhibition was organized in conjunction with the artist’s estate, which Sundaram Tagore Gallery represents worldwide.
