Top Facilities
The international standard golf facility, which has been included in the Strait Times ‘Tee Time’ top 10 courses in Malays]ia, comprises an 18-hole-course designed by the USA-based Nickels Golf Group Ltd of San Fransisco, California. A par-72, the 6,803m layout from the championship tee is set to challenge the single-digit handicap golfers and social golfers alike.
The course requires accurate placement of shots in order to approach the fast Bermuda Tifdwarf greens with both subtle and dramatic contours and strategically placed bunkers. There are water hazards in play at more than half the holes, especially the two par threes on the back nine where golfers play from the tee to an island green at the 13th and a peninsula green at the 17th.
The California-based designer, Doug Nickels of Nickels Golf Group, is an architect who has worked with Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Des Muirhead, and a man with extensive experience of developing golf projects in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea.
Top Events
Several top amateur tournaments have been held on the course, including the Malaysian Ladies Open in 2006 which was won by South Korean Ji Eun-hee. She turned pro the following year then went on to win the US Women’s Open on the Old Course at Saucon Valley with an aggregate score of level par in 2009.
The signature hole of the course is the par-three 160-metre 13th, with its island green which reminds golfers of the famous TPC Sawgrass.
