Singapore Airlines’ first Airbus A380 aircraft fitted with all-new cabin products arrived in Singapore this morning, December 14, 2017 from the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse. The aircraft touched down at Changi Airport at 1000hrs following a 13-hour flight.
An arrival ceremony was graced by students from Metta School, as well as other distinguished guests who had the opportunity to tour the newest addition to the Singapore Airlines fleet.
Singapore Airlines was the launch customer for the world’s largest passenger aircraft when it took delivery of the first of the type in October 2007. The aircraft that arrived from France today is the first of five new A380s ordered from Airbus, and the first to feature all-new cabin products that were launched publicly early last month. Singapore Airlines CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong, who was at Changi Airport to welcome the aircraft today, said: “The Airbus A380 is a favourite among our customers and we are especially proud to be taking the travel experience to the next level with our new cabin products. The new products are being introduced after four years of development work and we are confident they will truly ‘wow’ our customers, ensuring that we continue to provide them an unparalleled travel experience. The significant investment demonstrates our long-term approach to ensure we continue to lead the industry, and our confidence in the future of premium full-service air travel.” Singapore Airlines’ new A380s will be fitted with 471 seats in four classes, with six in Suites, 78 in Business Class, 44 in Premium Economy Class and 343 in Economy Class. The new products will initially be fitted to the five new aircraft being acquired from Airbus, after which retrofit work will begin on 14 aircraft that are already in service.The A380 delivered today will commence scheduled service between Singapore and Sydney on 18 December as flight SQ221, departing Singapore at 2040hrs and arriving into Sydney at 0740hrs the following day. It will return as flight SQ232, departing Sydney at 1215hrs and arriving into Singapore at 1735hrs. Additional destinations for the new products will be revealed in the coming months.
In addition to Sydney, the Airline’s A380s serve Auckland, Beijing, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Mumbai, New Delhi, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Zurich.
